Katrina Revisited

You Said: I thought a thread about Katrina might be appropriate since it’s been nearly two years now. It’s absolutely unbelievable that NO is still in a state of shambles in much of it’s area TWO YEARS after Katrina, but that’s a fact. There are still drowned cars sitting around, molding wrecks of homes to be torn down, victims rotting in a warehouse unclaimed and UNBURIED, and thousands still waiting to go back home with little being done to construct housing for them. Welcome to Bush’s Amerika folks. anyway, here are two very well sourced essays on what happened to get to the state affairs are in now. The first deals with the trashing of FEMA, while the second chronicles Karl Roves callous decision to use the destruction to further Republican electoral chances. They are both well worth reading.
She Was Not Wealthy There is one thing I will never understand about the “MAJOR MARKET PRESS” Why is that these so called intelligent people can’t spot a lie that is as simple as George Walker Bush’s dissembling after Katrina hit New Orleans. George Walker Bush was SPINNING the line NO BODY COULD HAVE KNOWN how destructive Katrina was going to be. NOAA had been tracking Katrina for almost a month. The Drudge Report NOAA and every body else in the United States of America knew that a big bad Katrina was headed for New Orleans. KABC in LA California new about the “STEERING HIGH” located in the Midwest moving west to east was in control of Katrina directing land fall. Why didn’t Bush let the United States of America Military help the people of New Orleans. In order to activate the following all Bush had to do was GIVE THE ORDER TO THE JCS They need orders one order from Bush and the JCS could have mobilized the U. S. military to secure New Orleans and protect the lives of thousands to feed the hungry and to cloth and shelter the poor. What were the SADISTIC NE-CON EVANGELICAL ACTIVISTS in the Bush Administration thinking about. As Bush played golf and “kicked back ” on his ranch thousands died in New Orleans. How To Save a Few Thousand Lives Deploying the following was and is doable. What was FEMA doing??? At Least 4 C-17’s 2 mre’s , 2 bottled water
There are over 100 C-17 in service the C-17 can also evacuate people on return trips
The design of the aircraft allows it to operate through small, austere airfields. The C-17 can take off and land on runways as short as 3,500 feet (1,064 meters) and only 90 feet wide (27.4 meters). Even on such narrow runways, the C-17 can turn around using a three-point star turn and its backing capability General Characteristics Primary Function: Cargo and troop transport Prime Contractor: Boeing Company Power Plant: Four Pratt & Whitney F117-PW-100 turbofan engines Thrust: 40,440 pounds, each engine Wingspan: 169 feet 10 inches (to winglet tips) (51.75 meters) Height: 55 feet 1 inch (16.79 meters) Cargo Compartment: length, 88 feet (26.82 meters); width, 18 feet (5.48 meters); height, 12 feet 4 inches (3.76 meters) Speed: 450 knots at 28,000 feet (8,534 meters) (Mach .76) Service Ceiling: 45,000 feet at cruising speed (13,716 meters) Range: Global with in-flight refueling Crew: Three (two pilots and one loadmaster) Aeromedical Evacuation Crew: A basic crew of five (two flight nurses and three medical technicians) is added for aeromedical evacuation missions. Medical crew may be altered as required by the needs of patients Maximum Peacetime Takeoff Weight: 585,000 pounds (265,352 kilograms) Load: 102 troops/paratroops; 36 litter and 54 ambulatory patients and attendants; 170,900 pounds (77,519 kilograms) of cargo (18 pallet positions) Unit Cost: Unit Cost: $202.3 million (FY98 constant dollars) Date Deployed: June 1993 Inventory: Active duty, 131; Air National Guard, 8; Air Force Reserve, 8 Point of Contact Air Mobility Command, Office of Public Affairs; 503 Ward Drive, Suite 217; Scott Air Force Base, Ill. 62225-5335; DSN 779-7843 or (618) 229-7843
At Least 4 CH-47D’s Ground Support Personnel & Communications & Initial Ranger Recon Teams
Also use the CH-47 to find ” porta – podies “, motor generators ect. and evacuate people.CH-47D was the result of June 1976 contract for a modernized Chinook. Three airframes, CH-47A, CH-47B, and a CH-47C, were stripped-down to their basic airframes and then rebuilt with improved systems to provide three CH-47D prototypes. Improvements included upgraded power plants, rotor transmissions, integral lubrication and cooling for the transmission systems, and fiberglass rotor blades. Other improvements included a redesigned cockpit to reduce pilot workload, redundant and improved electrical systems, modularized hydraulic systems, an advanced flight control system, and improved avionics. The Chinook has two tandem three-bladed counter-rotating fiberglass rotors. The CH-47D is powered by two Allied Signal Engines T55-L-712 3750 shp turboshaft engines and has a maximum speed of 195 mph (170 knots).
At least 12 of These Bell (model 205A-1) UH-1H or Today’s Equivalent
Let the UH-1’s stay at the air port with the flight crews to be ready after the storm passesThe above could have been forward deployed at the New Orleans Int. airport in 19 to 20 hours with no problems. This is not rocket science. FEMA was to be the lead organization i.e. giving orders to the military. When there is an emergency like Katrina you can not trust life and death decision making to UN-QUALIFIED political hacks. The JCS should have been the lead organization. All in all the failure of the Bush Administration is convoluted by the duplicitous nature of the RNC and it’s congressional leadership at that time. Both D. Hastert and T. Delay were trying by any means necessary to secure a perpetual SADISTIC NE-CON EVANGELICAL ACTIVIST majority in both the US House of Representatives and the US Senate. In New Orleans there has been one thing stopping the RNC /Cato/Heritage juggernaut the lower ninth ward and those pesky Poor folks. These people needed to be removed in as slick a way as possible. Why not set up New Orleans for bath and wash the Poor out for good . (1)(2)(3)(4)(5)(6)(7)(8)(9) In order to set these wheels in motion all that was required was to do “NOTHING” and to neglect the levees. (10) (11)(12)(13)(14)(15)(16)
